In 2022, the UEFA Europa League final will be held at the Puskás Arena. Sándor Csányi, president of the Hungarian Football Federation, said that he is confident that the Europa League final will make many children in the country fall in love with football.
The UEFA Executive Committee on the 2nd of March 2022 in Amsterdam decided to hold the Europa League final in Hungary in 2022, at the Puskás Arena, which was inaugurated last November with a capacity of more than 60,000 people. Today's decision is of sporting history, and no men's international cup series has ever been concluded in a one-leg final before.
The call for proposals will be launched by the Associations on 15 December 2019., and the tender notice was sent out on 5 July. The deadline for submitting the application was 28 December 2019. During the preparation of the competition, the association cooperated with the various levels of government, the management of the Puskás Arena, the municipality of the capital, transport companies, hotels, tourist operators and experts from other fields. The scheduled date for the Europa League final is 18 or 25 May 2022.
"I feel a very strong confirmation of our work that Hungary can host outstanding football matches every year, starting with last year's women's Champions League final, continuing with the four meetings of this year's European Championship, the final of the European Under-21 Championship and, according to this decision, the 2022 Europa League final," Sándor Csányi, president of the Federation, told mlsz.hu, following the decision. "As a result, more and more Hungarian fans can watch outstanding football matches locally in their own country. I am confident that the upcoming Europa League final will be a big match that will make many children fall in love with football.
Thanks to the success of the Federation's sporting diplomacy, Hungary has been elected to host several prestigious European football events in recent years: in 2019 Budapest was the venue for the women's CL final, this year we will be co-hosts of the 2020 Men's European Championship, in 2021 we will co-host the U21 European Championship and in 2022 we will welcome the Europa League final,
